Broadcast March 9, 1942 on CBS’ long running and high quality Lux Radio Theater, this was a comedy originally written for the movies by the hugely gifted Preston Sturges.  Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda, and Charles Coburn, it’s a madcap tale about a father-daughter team of card sharks that tries to milk a foolish but very rich young man out of his money.  The daughter falls in love with the victim—of course!—and the fun never stops.  Incidentally, the Lux Radio Theater, usually an hour in length, was shortened that night to forty-five minutes because President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Vice President Harry Truman, and Secretary of Agriculture Claude Wickard were scheduled to address the nation.  The Radio Players will fill the time with several delicious radio comedy routines.

Audiences are invited to witness the performance of classic radio scripts by voice actors, sound effects artists employing as many manual devices as possible, and, often, a real, live keyboard player.  The AFTRA/SAG Players stay faithful to the original model by having to get it right the first time--no retakes permitted.
