Performing scenes from George Bernard Shaw’s Widowers’ Houses, ShawChicago looks at how Shaw fashioned a new kind of theater out of the conventions of Victorian melodrama. Following the scenes, Professor Joel Kaplan will speak about Shaw as a socially-conscious playwright. Kaplan, former head of the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham, UK is a freelance theater historian, author and consultant to the BBC and London’s Royal National Theater’.
