Inspired by the Auditorium Theatre’s upcoming presentation of the Chicago premiere of “Margaret Garner,” a new American opera by Toni Morrison based on one of the most significant and controversial fugitive slave stories in pre-Civil War America, the Auditorium Theatre is proud to present James DeVita’s musical “A Midnight Cry: The Underground Railroad to Freedom.” This performance is open the community, and families, teachers and home school groups are invited to attend.
“A Midnight Cry” is a stirring, emotional story for young people that chronicles a young woman’s journey on the Underground Railroad. This inspirational musical explores the themes of tolerance, justice, hope, equality and freedom. To date, “A Midnight Cry” has been performed at 22 Chicago Public Schools, and 8 additional performances are planned this fall.
