Presented by AFTRA/SAG Senior Radio Players
Wednesday, October 12
7:00 PM — 9:00 PM
Claudia Cassidy Theater
FREE EVENT, no ticket or reservation required
Audiences are invited to witness the performance of classic radio scripts by voice actors, sound effects artists and, often, live musicians. The AFTRA/SAG Players stay faithful to the original model by having to get it right the first time - no retakes permitted.
A Map of Gold (originally broadcast on the Mutual Network, date unknown)
Chicago’s own Dick Thorne excelled as a radio director, actor, announcer, and writer. The Radio Players hope to raise a sizable crop of goosebumps on your hide by dramatizing one of Thorne’s 112 episodes from the series he dedicated to “the supernatural, the unusual, and the unknown.” Redundant, maybe, but right on target.
The Big Gap (originally broadcast February 8, 1955 on NBC Radio)
The low-key, totally realistic police drama series based on actual crimes as revealed in official Los Angeles police files. Jack Webb directed the show and played Detective Joe Friday, a character so memorable that it was imitated for decades after Dragnet left the air. In this episode, Joe and his partner Frank Smith methodically track down a pair of criminals guilty of grand theft.
