We WON!

Wow, what a night for us and our associate companies at the non-equity Jeff Awards!

DCA Theater received SIXTEEN nominations (our highest ever) and our associated productions walked away with FIVE JEFF AWARDS for non-equity productions!

A huge congratulations also to Caffeine Theater and Chicago Opera Vanguard for their multiple nominations for Boojum!: Nonsense, Truth and Lewis Carroll, as well as Dog & Pony Theatre Company on their nominations for Dead Letter Office.

Another big congratulations goes out to The New Colony for being awarded Best Original Incidental Music for That Sordid Little Story, which began life as part of our Incubator Series.
 
Coming soon as part of our Fall 2011 Season, The Strange Tree Group won 3 awards, including artistic director and resident playwright Emily Schwartz for Best New Work.  We can’t wait to see what she has in store for us with her next creation, The Spirit Play, running in our Storefront Theater beginning October 5!  The play actually began as a workshop as part of our Incubator Series – learn how the script came together during their collaborative process and view footage from the talk back here.

The Jeff Awards has been honoring outstanding theatre artists annually since it was established in 1968.  With 50 members representing a wide variety of backgrounds in theatre, it is committed to celebrating the vitality of Chicago area theatre by recognizing excellence through its recommendations, awards, and honors.  The Jeff Awards fosters the artistic growth of area theatres and theatre artists and promotes educational opportunities, audience appreciation, and civic pride in the achievements of the theatre community.  Jeff members evaluate over 250 theatrical productions and hold two awards ceremonies annually. Originally chartered to recognize only Equity productions, the Jeff Awards established the Non-Equity Wing in 1973 to celebrate outstanding achievement in non-union theatre.
