Inside DanceBridge

Posted by DCA Theater on September 27, 2011 in July-December 2011 Season, DanceBridge Showcase Fall 2011

Submitted by Annie Maurer, Millie Kapp and Matt Shalzi, participants in DanceBridge Fall 2011

On Thursday, September 22nd, Annie Maurer, Millie Kapp and Matt Shalzi completed their third rehearsal together. In response to a writing prompt posed at the end of their rehearsal, they reflected on how their present work continues the research they have been doing together, and what departures their work has taken in the last few weeks. These are some of their findings:

We depart by

… becoming clothes
… refusing
… becoming lesbian business men
… confounding physical and emotional improvisation
… discovering how to dance two dances simultaneously, one internal and one external

We continue to

… build a puzzle while solving it at the same time
… find new things funny
… work from narratives, from both personal and cultural sources
… use diagonals
… attempt at synchronicity
… be confused as to what is backward and what is forward
