Inspired by the abandoned boxcars and vast cornfields of his childhood, playwright Beau O’Reilly’s piece deals with hard times in a rural setting where a childhood friendship is challenged, a widowed woman seeks revenge and the compassionate sheriff acts as the mediator. Incorporating folk music from a live band, Newcity calls Whiskey in Blue “a rare and engaging theatrical event.” A co-founder of the Curious Theatre Branch, O’Reilly was named as “ …one of the 50 most influential people in Chicago theater…” by Chicago magazine.
