Returning for a second season to Millennium Park is the theater lab series, In The Works, where audiences have a chance to sit on the stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion to experience works in development by local theater artists. The 2010-2011 season, supported by a grant from The Boeing Company, kicks off with Rivendell Theatre Ensemble’s production of The Fairy Queen which runs November 11-13 at 7:30 p.m.
The play is (mostly) a comedy about romance, fantasy, terror, sex and trying not to kill your mother. In Cambridge Massachusetts on September 10, 2001, The Fairy Queen introduces audiences to two sets of mothers and daughters in two neighboring houses, trying to survive terror; both internal and external.
The production features Chicago actors Barbara Robertson, Meg Thalken, Diane Dorsey and Meighan Gerachis, along with renowned experimental theater artist, Ruth Maleczech, co-founder of the avant-garde theater troupe, Mabou Mines. Myra Paci wrote the role of Florence specifically for Ms. Maleczech.
Rivendell Theatre Ensemble is a professional theatre company committed to cultivating the talents of women theatre artists and seeking out innovative plays that explore the unique female experience. Company member Meighan Gerachis was part of The Fairy Queen’s early development at the Envision Retreat and the New York Theatre Workshop.
