With script and music by Eric Lane Barnes, Simple Jim is an interactive play based on an old folk tale. Incorporating audience participation and improv, the piece follows the adventures of a naïve youngster who sets out to win half of a queen’s kingdom with a flying ship. He journeys with an archer who never misses, a robot obsessed with counting, a lonely man with one eye and a cowgirl and her frog. Recommended for children ages six and older.
The production’s original run garnered rave reviews, hailed as a “marvelous story, full of surprises” by the Chicago Tribune and “clever and funny” by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Simple Jim and His Four Fabulous Friends is the part of the Storefront Theater Children’s Series, supported by the Sears on State Downtown Neighborhood Campaign. A collaboration between Sears and the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs, the Campaign supports programs that enrich the quality of life for Chicagoans who live, work and play in downtown Chicago.
