Coming to the Jay Pritzker Pavilion from April 15-17, 2010 at 7:30 p.m., is El Nogalar, the final offering of Millennium Park’s new theater lab series, In the Works. Presented by Millennium Park and Teatro Vista…Theatre with a View, the play is written by Tanya Saracho and is loosely based on Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, set in northern Mexico in the year 2011.
In El Nogalar, Teatro Vista’s Resident Playwright, Tanya Saracho addresses the issues of class, entitlement and the return of Mexican immigrant families who once fled their country. It is the story of the newly Anglicized Mexicans who returned to their homeland after an economic downturn in the United States, and the landowner who must cut down the orchards for the money the land will bring. Directed by Teatro Vista Resident Director, Cecilie D. Keenan, this world premiere will receive a future production in Teatro Vista’s 2010-2011 season.
With the In The Works series, audiences have a chance to sit on the stage of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, experiencing works in development by local theater artists or companies. The series is supported by a grant from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust.
