Mini-interviews with the actors currently working with Vintage Theater Collective on Lion on the Cheesegrater in the DCA Theater Incubator Series
Name: Stephanie Chavara
Favorite role you’ve played? Bananas, The House of Blue Leaves
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? A big Russian book like Anna Karenina, or olive oil. It makes everything taste better.
What super power would you like to have? Flying
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Rita Hayworth in Gilda. She can’t help herself and just destroys everything around her.
Name: Katy Carolina Collins
Favorite role you’ve played? Audrey, As You Like It
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? A never-running out music player
What super power would you like to have? The ability to stop time
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Rita Hayworth in Lady of Shanghi
Name: Caitlin Costello
Favorite role you’ve played? Sylvia, Two Gentlemen of Verona
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? I’d bring suntan lotion. I burn.
What super power would you like to have? I’d have telekinesis as a superpower HANDS DOWN
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? LA Confidential
Name: Sally Eames
Favorite role you’ve played? Dorine, Tartuffe; I love getting to be silly on stage.
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? A lifetime supply of sunscreen.
What super power would you like to have? The ability to adjust time to suit my needs/preferences. Make workdays go faster, make Saturdays and vacations last forever, that kind of thing.
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Medusa from The Rescuers. Also, Lady Macbeth.
Name: Breana Jarvis
Favorite role you’d played? Celimene, Misanthrope, or the Impossible Lovers. We used a mini trampoline to enter and exit the playing space. There were so many wonderful things about that production.
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? Avocados. Tons. I read somewhere that if you could only eat one thing on a desert island, avocados would keep you alive the longest. And I’d plant them. They grow well in subtropical temperatures!
What super power would you like to have? Teleportation. I’m new to the city and getting around is an adventure, but it’s so expensive and time consuming! Honestly, I’d rather just teleport.
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Lola Bunny. Does she count? In Space Jam, she has that perfect femme fatale moment where she says, “don’t ever call me…doll.”
Name: Kay Kron
Favorite role you’ve played? Raggedy Ann
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? I’d take my nice cat.
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Maltese Falcon (or Xena, the warrior princess).
Name: Mouzam Makkar
Favorite role you’ve played? Scheherazade/Dahna, Jason Grote’s 1001
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? My guitar (with as many new strings I can fit inside my case)!
What super power would you like to have? The ability to stop time.
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Jessica Rabbit, Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Name: Kelley Ristow
Favorite role you’ve played? I thought about this one for a long time, and I genuinely don’t have a favorite role.
One thing you’d take with you to a desert island? Fresh water, or maybe a book
What super power would you like to have? Oh god, that’s a really big question. I think…flying.
Favorite film noir or femme fatale character? Appelonia, Purple Rain
